Ole Henriksen – Truth Juice Daily Cleanser

Ole Henriksen – Truth Juice Daily Cleanser

A juice cleanse I actually like the sound of.

Ole Henriksen is a Danish skin cosmetician who created a wide range of skin-care products to target different skin concerns. I bought the cleanser from the Truth collection which aims to brighten skin with the addition of Vitamin C.

Inspired by juice cleanses which detoxify the body, Henriksen created a juice cleanse to detoxify your skin. This is a juice cleanse that you won’t give up after day 1.

The Truth Juice Daily Cleanser will remove all of your make-up and any excess dirt and oils, leaving your skin feeling refreshed and revitalised. It is a foaming cleanser and when the creamy formula mixes with water it creates a luxurious lather. It is a very fragrant cleanser, and the colour of the bottle doesn’t try to hide what that scent will be. Be prepared for a wave of zingy orange, it’s basically like having one of your five-a-day.

The Ole Henriksen brand started as a spa and that definitely comes across with this product. The packaging is really vibrant and definitely stands out amongst my other skin-care products. The scent packs a powerful punch which will make you want to double cleanse, but one cleanse is definitely enough. I love how this cleanser invigorates my skin and creates a glow that lasts all day. I’m definitely excited to try more products from the Ole Henriksen brand.

After all this juice cleanse talk, I might even have a glass of orange juice.

Clinique – All About Eyes Eye Cream Rich

Clinique – All About Eyes Eye Cream Rich

Good things come in small packages.

Do I really need to use an eye cream? That is the question I always asked myself. I’m young enough to not have fine lines but I also want to look after my skin. However, after a lot of research, I concluded that using an eyecream is not a necessity, but when it comes to skincare the earlier the better. Dermatologists suggest that the best time to start using an eye cream is before you think you need one. Using an eye cream in my 20s won’t harm my skin, but it might help prevent fine lines and wrinkles. The skin around your eyes is really delicate so it needs some extra attention. Plus an eye cream does so much more than deliver anti-ageing benefits.

Clinique’s All About Eyes is a really creamy eye cream which instantly hydrates the delicate eye area. When I apply it in the morning, the puffiness of my eyes noticeably decreases, which makes me feel more awake and ready to start my day. If your eyes feel or look tired, this product will brighten up your eyes and overtime reduce dark circles. I use All About Eyes every morning and evening and I have been really impressed with the results. The product also sits really well under make-up. It’s the perfect addition to any skincare routine. It might be on the pricier side for such a small product, but the results will be worth it.

What is purging?

What is purging?

Sometimes your skin has to look worse before it can look better.

A few months ago I introduced a new product into my skin-care regime in order to tackle a few, annoying breakouts. However, every day my skin seemed to be getting worse and worse. The product was quite expensive and had received fantastic reviews on the internet and from the lady in the store. This left me feeling very confused and a bit disappointed.

Seeking answers, I jumped onto the internet and stumbled upon the term purging. I had never heard of purging being related to the skin before, so it sparked my curiosity and I wanted to know more.

So what is purging? Purging is basically when a new product or a change to your routine speeds up your skin cell turn over rate. However, as this happens all the build-up under your skin rises up, leaving you with a rush of breakouts. As a result, people (myself included) tend to stop using the product they think is causing these breakouts. However, sometimes it is actually more beneficial to allow your skin to purge in order to see the benefits of the new ingredients you’re adding to your skin.

Unlike regular breakouts, these spots usually disappear a lot sooner. They also normally occur in the places where you usually breakout. Products such as retinoids and acids are quite powerful, so the skin needs more time to adjust.

If you think your skin is purging after using a new product, it’s important to simplify your skin-care routine for a while. But also, in order to see the benefits of the new product you just bought, you must keep using it.

I know the ugly breakout stage is tough but resist the urge to cut-out the product, and you may just see the amazing results the product promises. Patience is key.

Obviously, if you think you are having a bad reaction to the product, don’t use it or seek dermatological advice! But if you just notice a few more breakouts in your regular areas, it may just be that your skin is purging and getting the skin ready for the new ingredients you’re adding to your routine.

Next time don’t be so hasty to put that new product to the bottom of the pile.

Glowing skin is on its way.

La Roche Posay – My favourite brand for all things SPF

La Roche Posay – My favourite brand for all things SPF

If you read my ‘Let’s talk SPF…’ post a few days ago, then you will know how strongly I believe in the importance of applying SPF every day. Over the years I’ve tried a fair few products out, but I keep coming back to La Roche Posay. If you’re looking for SPF products that sit well under make-up and don’t leave you with that dreaded white-cast look, then La Roche Posay could be the new brand for you!

La Roche Posay is a French skin-care brand who specialise in making dermatological skin-care accessible to those who need it. The brand is a huge advocate for spreading awareness on sun-safety through their high-quality sunscreen and skin cancer awareness messaging.

Although I have bought numerous of La Roche Posay’s products, the ones I want to talk to you about today are my go-to products for sun protection.

The first is their Effaclar Duo+ SPF30. I use this product every morning as a moisturiser and it has worked wonders for my skin. The product aims to visibly correct imperfections and reduce blackheads. This product is ideal for oily and blemish-prone skin types and the added bonus of containing SPF 30 is a no-brainer. Apply this every morning and take comfort in the fact that you are protected from the sun.

The second product is for days when I know I will be exposed to the sun for longer periods of time, such as on holiday. It is their Anthelios Ultra-Light Invisible Fluid SPF50+ Sun Cream. This product works perfectly under my make-up and doesn’t leave my face feeling greasy. There is also no white-cast and is suitable for oily skin. I sometimes use this product under my moisturiser if I need extra protection that day, otherwise, it is my go-to face sunscreen on holiday.

My skin type is oily and I have really got on well with these products. However, on La Roche Posay’s website, they have designated pages for each skin-type, and then they suggest which of their products will work best for your skin. There is also a quiz you can take, which will work out what your skin type is. I definitely recommend this brand if you’re looking to invest in your sun-care and skin protection.

Factor SPF into your daily routine, and stay safe in the sun!

Fenty Skin is here. Are you ready?

Fenty Skin is here. Are you ready?

Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty took the make-up world by storm when she launched the brand back in 2017. But now she’s changing the game once again and has brought out three new products under the title of Fenty Skin.

The idea is that Fenty Skin is suitable for all skin types and cuts down the number of products people need to use every day. Skin-care regimes always seem so complex and overwhelming, but Fenty Skin aims to simplify your routine whilst still proving really effective.

Rihanna has also discussed how important it was for her products to be eco-friendly. The products have been made out of recyclable materials where possible and there is no excess packaging. What’s more, she has created a refillable system whereby you only need to buy the full-sized product once. After that, you just purchase a refill version of the product. Absolute genius.

The products are also super accessible, with a twist-open and twist-close cap. I absolutely love this, as I’m always fiddling with the lids of my products and end up spending a lot longer trying to put the right lid on the right product.

On the 31st July, Fenty Skin went live with three unique products.

  1. Total Cleanser – A 2-in-1 make-up remover and cleanser. Removes make-up and dirt/oils in one step.
  2. Fat Water – A toner-serum which targets pores and brightens skin.
  3. Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturiser – A SPF 30 lightweight moisturiser.

There is tonnes more information at https://www.fentybeauty.com/fentyskin and you will be able to find hundreds of reviews on the internet already. As soon as I can get my hands on the products I will share my thoughts with you. But until then, dream about an effortless beauty regime which will help the environment whilst giving your skin a new lease of life.

Glow Tonic – PIXI

Glow Tonic – PIXI

It’s time to show off your skin’s glow.

If I could only recommend one skin-care product, it would be this one. Pixi’s Glow Tonic has been my skin’s saviour for the past two years. I am obsessed with this product and can’t go a day without using it. The products in my skin-care routine are constantly changing, but this product isn’t going anywhere!

The Glow Tonic is a facial toner that cleans your pores by removing excess oil and impurities. It also gently exfoliates your skin, revealing your natural glow. It contains glycolic acid which exfoliates the skin, ginseng which energises the skin and aloe vera which hydrates the skin.

I use this product in the AM & PM after cleansing. All you need to do is pour a small amount onto a cotton pad and gently wipe across your skin. A small amount really does go a long way! Since using this product I have noticed minimal breakouts and my oil is more controlled. At first, you may notice a stinging sensation, but this goes away after a few uses.

Pixi’s Glow Tonic has received glowing reviews and is a cult favourite amongst the beauty community. The product was the winner of Teen Vogues 2017 Acne Awards.

The bottle comes in three sizes: 250ml, 100ml & 15ml.

It is the added step between cleansing and moisturising that will change your skin game forever.

Let’s talk SPF…

Let’s talk SPF…

Protect your skin all year round!!

We all know that taking care of your skin is really really important, and we are constantly told to drink plenty of water, exercise regularly and build a varied skincare routine. But what we’re not told, is how wearing SPF every day should be at the top of our priority list.

SPF is usually associated with the summer, beach holidays and scorching hot temperatures. And even then, a lot of people don’t bother to apply sunscreen. But what most people don’t know, is that the sun can still penetrate through the clouds, so on those cold, miserable days, your skin is still exposed to the sun’s damaging UV rays. Approximately 80% of the sun’s UV rays can pass through clouds! So to play it safe, apply SPF every day to areas exposed to the sun!

SPF stands for sun protection factor and the number next to it indicates how well the sunscreen protects you against sunburn. So for example, if you use SPF 10, you’re protecting your skin for an additional 10 minutes more than it would take your skin to burn without sunscreen.

However, it’s not really the factor that you choose, its how you use it. If you applied a thick layer of SPF 30 every hour, you would have better protection than applying a thin layer of SPF 50 once a day. Most people tend to apply sunscreen once and then think they’re protected for the rest of the day. This is the biggest mistake, and the key is to apply sunscreen consistently throughout the day. As much as it can be annoying when you’re having a good time on holiday or even spending time outside on a rare sunny day in England, always apply sunscreen regularly throughout the day!

I am a huge advocate for wearing SPF every day as it is such a quick step to add to your morning routine, and the benefits are essential to maintaining healthy skin. We all want to look as young as we can for as long as we can, but is a sunkissed glow really worth the dangerous effects of the sun’s rays. Too much exposure to the sun can lead to sunburn, skin ageing, and even skin cancer. That is damage which is difficult to reverse. When there are so many self-tanners out there, is the risk really worth it?

I am in no way saying don’t spend time in the sun. The sun is our main source of vitamin D, which releases endorphins which in turn make us feel happy. Plus, everyone loves getting a summers tan. But just remember to always protect yourself in the sun. For example, wear a sun hat, avoid peak hours, and of course, always wear sunscreen!!

Now a few questions which I had and sought out the answers to.

How much sunscreen do I really need? A teaspoon worth to cover your face and about a shot glass sized amount to cover your body. Basically anywhere that is exposed to the sun needs protection.

Can I still wear make-up? Yes! Apply sunscreen as the last step in your skin-care routine and then apply your make-up. If you’re planning on being in the sun all day then maybe go au-naturel or find an SPF product that can be applied on top of make-up.

Is the SPF in a moisturiser enough? Only if you’re not planning on being exposed to the sun for long periods of time.

UVA or UVB? Both. Pick a sunscreen with a good quality broad spectrum which protects against both UVA and UVB rays.

How often should I apply sunscreen? Every two hours, and especially after being in the water.

Disclaimer. I am in no way an expert, but I just wanted to share with you what I’ve learnt, and encourage more people to apply SPF every morning and protect your skin.

Come rain or shine, please apply your sunscreen!

Vitamin C Glow Revealing Liquid Peel – The Body Shop

Vitamin C Glow Revealing Liquid Peel – The Body Shop

Warning: prepare to be shocked.

This is a product I recently discovered over lockdown, and I am ashamed to admit that it was actually TikTok that made me buy it. For those who don’t know, TikTok is a video-sharing social networking service which has taken the world by storm over the course of the pandemic. Around the world, people have been uploading dance videos, lip-sync videos, and occasionally you’ll find a beauty recommendation. The Body Shop’s Liquid Peel was a popular hit with TikTokers and the results just didn’t seem possible. The product would literally peel away their skin, leaving them with a fresh, dewy, clean face. I was absolutely amazed as I had never seen anything like it. So you guessed right, I went and bought it…

At first, I was a bit sceptical as I am such a skincare addict so I couldn’t fathom the fact that my routine wasn’t already removing all of the dirt and grease. But, oh how I was wrong.

You apply two pumps of the product onto clean, dry skin, and massage it into your face. Then, you watch in horror, as your skin noticeably appears to peel off. And then, of course, you finish with a warm cleansing cloth. The results were amazing, my skin felt smooth and actually quite glowy. In addition, my make-up started to look so much better after using this product.

The product aims to remove pollutants that are left sitting on the skin at the end of the day which most cleansers can’t remove. The gel gently peels away impurities and dead skin cells to reveal natural, healthy skin. The Body Shop recommends that you use the product once or twice a week, and it can also be used on other dry parts of the body such as elbows and feet. The glow is undeniable and the smell is sweet and fresh.

I’ve never bought skin-care from the Body Shop before, but their website is bursting with products which use a huge range of ingredients, and I especially like that you can view their products by skin concern. There are 8 other products in their Vitamin C range, so I will definitely be adding some extra zest to my beauty regime.

I highly recommend this product as a great addition to any skincare routine. If you’re after smooth, exfoliated skin, buy the Vitamin C Glow Revealing Liquid Peel and say goodbye to dull skin.

Price: £18.50. (You won’t regret it)

Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm – Clinique

Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm – Clinique

I was always a make-up wipe girl. Now I’m a cleansing balm girl.

If you had asked me a few months ago about what a cleansing balm was, I wouldn’t have had the slightest idea. I would always take my make-up off with a trusted Simple cleansing wipe. And before you say anything, yes, I know they’re extremely bad for the environment. (Around 1.3 billion wipes are thrown away each day eeek). But they did the job.

Then, whilst looking for a new cleanser, I came across Clinique’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm on a website called Look Fantastic. Look Fantastic is the holy grail of beauty websites and they stock almost every product and brand you could think of. Therefore, for Clinique’s cleansing balm to be so high up on the recommended list, I knew it had to be good. Along with some other bits, I purchased the travel size of the cleansing balm and since then I haven’t gone a single day without using it.

So what is a cleansing balm? Well, it is a cleanser which transforms from a balm to an oil when it reacts with water. Clever, huh. First, you massage the hard balm into dry skin with your fingertips. FYI, a little goes a very long way. Then add warm water and watch your stubborn make-up dissolve just like that. Finish with a warm cleansing cloth and you’ll be left with a clean, make-up free face, ready for bed. It couldn’t be easier.

The product leaves your face silky soft and it isn’t at all drying. In addition, you can use it around the eyes without the fear of sore, itchy eyes all evening. If like me, your mascara is always stubborn and you’re left with remnants that refuse to budge, then you will definitely be impressed.

It’s definitely on the pricier side, but what I’ve learned is that all great skin-care is. It sucks but healthy skin is very very important, so in my opinion, it’s always worth that extra investment. As well as being so much better for the environment, the product lasts much longer than other cleansers I’ve tried and really removes those tough bits of make-up that a wipe can’t reach. After using Clinique’s Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm I will never go back to make-up wipes and I hope you make the change too.

Melt away your make-up and never forget to take the day off.

Price: £25 – 125 ml & £9 – 30 ml (Start with the 30ml to see if it works for your skin)
