Explicit Black Climax Mascara – NARS

Explicit Black Climax Mascara – NARS

Put the false lashes away. Right. Now.

NARS is one of my favourite brands and they are renowned for the cheeky names that they give to all of their products. Their standout mascara is no different. The Climax mascara aims to deliver buildable volume and intensity that you won’t want to stop applying.

I bought this mascara on the recommendation of two friends, both of whom have eyelashes I could only dream of. So, I thought I would give it a go and see if I could get anywhere close to their natural lashes.

First of all, I have to mention the packaging. Given the name of the mascara, you would expect its packaging to be OTT. However, I think the product looks super stylish and the bright red packaging really does stand out in my make-up bag. With just one look I was already sold.

But does it work? Well, I am a huge mascara critic and I absolutely loved this product. As all of my friends know, I wasn’t lucky enough to get the good genes in the eyelash department, therefore choosing the right mascara is always a massive deal to me. My ideal mascara needs to make my eyelashes really black, give me length, but also volume. Basically, I want false lashes but without the faff.

The Climax mascara did everything I wanted it to do. The thick brush enables buildable length and explosive volume. The mascara couldn’t be more black if it tried, which is great for the sexy, night-time look this mascara achieves. You will definitely notice the before and after, and want to apply more.

HOWEVER…I did find that after a few hours the mascara rubs off a bit and leaves some black shadow under my eyes. BUT…for the depth of colour and the volume of my lashes, I am not complaining.

The Nars Climax Mascara is definitely up there with my all-time favourite mascaras. No need to fake it with this mascara. Get it now.

My go-to pink lip.

My go-to pink lip.

Keep calm and wear pink lipstick.

Everyone has a favourite lip combo and I wanted to share mine with you today. A pink lip is the perfect addition to any make-up look and this is how I achieve it…

Step 1: NYX – Slim Lip Pencil – Shade Natural

I always used to skip lip liner as I thought it was a waste of time and would make my lips look too big and fake. But now, if I am doing a full glam look, I think lip liner can really complement your lip shape and add natural volume. I really wanted a colour that would match my natural lips, and I came across NYX’s vast range of lip liners. Their lip pencil comes in 38 shades, so there is a colour for everyone and every look. NYX also has a virtual try-on camera on their website, so that might be helpful if you’re struggling to choose between shades. The natural shade is a perfect colour if you want a nude-pink lip and it complements my Pillow Talk lipstick perfectly.

Step 2: Charlotte Tilbury – Lipstick Pillow Talk

Pillow Talk by Charlotte Tilbury is a lipstick that everyone knows the name of and is a must-have amongst celebs and influencers. According to charlottetilbury.com, 3 Pillow Talk lipsticks are sold every minute. That is a crazy statistic! It has become so popular that Charlotte Tilbury created a whole range of products centred around the Pillow Talk lip. The new range is definitely something I have my eye on.

But back to the lipstick. The Pillow Talk lipstick is a nude-pink shade which enhances the natural hue of your lips. This means that the lipstick looks different on everyone, but either way, it’s a stunning shade. The lipstick feels really velvety on the lips and is super easy and smooth to apply. You do have to reapply the lipstick throughout the day but the amazing colour and how it makes your lips feel makes it 1000% worth it. It’s the perfect everyday lipstick and I can’t go anywhere without it. It is a universally loved product and for very good reason.

There is always time for some pillow talk. Get it now.

Step 3: Dior – Lip Maximizer – Shade 12

This was a treat myself moment as it is definitely an expensive purchase but it has been worth every penny. The Dior Lip Maximizer looks super luxurious and feels as good as it looks. The lip gloss plumps the lips, so be aware of the tingling sensation of the product. It lasts for such a long time and my lips feel really moisturised when I use this lipgloss. I’m really happy with the shade I chose, it is a pretty pink that complements my Pillow Talk lipstick. It has a beautiful sheen and transforms any make-up look. If you’re looking for a plumping gloss that will make your lips stand out from the crowd, this is the gloss for you. J’adore Dior.

A handbag staple that everyone will want to borrow.

Contour Stick – Morphe

Contour Stick – Morphe

Dreaming of a chiselled jawline?

I am a huge fan of cream contour products! I think they can really add definition to your face in the places that you need it. They can make any forehead look smaller, any nose look slimmer, and any jaw look chiselled. What’s not to love?

Morphe are a huge brand, but their products are sometimes hard to get hold of within the UK. However, whilst searching on Cult Beauty for a new contour stick, I came across Morphe’s range of cream contour products. I opted for the contour stick, as I find a stick really easy to apply.

The Morphe contour stick comes in 10 shades, so there is an option for every skin colour. I opted for shade 13 and it’s a lovely caramel shade which makes me look really tanned. FYI always choose a shade about two shades darker than your skin tone in order for the product to be undetectable.

I’m really really happy with the Morphe contour stick. It glides seamlessly over the face and is so easy to blend. The product is also really buildable so you will definitely be able to achieve your desired look.

If you want to add some definition to your make-up look, then maybe it’s time to start contouring? It’s such an easy way for people to think your bone structure is just that good.

Price: £14 (If you find yourself on Cult Beauty you will probably end up spending more…guilty)

Sun Bunny Bronzer – Too Faced

Sun Bunny Bronzer – Too Faced

A dual-shaded bronzer to surpass any make-up desire.

If you hadn’t guessed by now, my make-up bag is filled to the brim with Too Faced products. And my bronzer is no exception. I present to you the Sun Bunny Bronzer by Too Faced, a dual-shaded piece of make-up heaven.

The bronzer has two sides, a glowy bronze, and a deep bronze. Put them together and it’s magic. It’s the perfect bronzer for summer as it’s pink undertones mimic the flush of a natural tan.

The glowy bronze side isn’t at all shimmery, it just enhances your natural colour and brings out your inner glow. The deep bronze side adds dimension to your face and blends seamlessly. Both shades are easy to build and work perfectly together.

Wear the shades separately or sweep your brush across the compact for an extra glow. But either way, you will love this product.

I also use this bronzer for an everyday eyeshadow, as one stroke across the eyes adds a natural shaping. Also, the compact is super sturdy and comes with a vanity mirror, so you can keep an eye on your sun-kissed skin all day long.

If you’re after a bronzer that makes it look like you just spent a day at the beach, then you must get your hands on it now.

Price: £25 (hunny, that’s the price to be a sun bunny)

How often do you clean your make-up brushes?

How often do you clean your make-up brushes?

If you have to think about it, it’s been too long.

We all know how important good hygiene is, but then why do so many of us forget to clean our make-up brushes? I can definitely put my hands up and admit that I don’t clean mine as often as I should, and don’t even ask about the state of my beauty blender.

Dirty make-up brushes are a definite no-no for healthy skin and a flawless make-up application. The bristles harbour A LOT of bacteria and dirt, which you are then putting directly onto your skin. This can cause breakouts and skin irritation, whilst also wearing down the strength of the bristles making the brush less effective over-time. Clearly something needs to change.

So how often should we be cleaning our brushes? Experts suggest around twice a week if you’re using them every day. But as long as you’re cleaning them regularly, then you’re saving your skin from a lot of unnecessary dirt and irritation. If they’re currently covered in your favourite foundation or you can’t remember the last time you cleaned them, then its probably about time.

Also, don’t forget about your beauty blender. Beauty blenders hold onto all the dirt and grime that accumulates on your face and they are much harder to thoroughly clean. Sponges should be washed after every use or at least after every few uses. You may not want to hear this but they also need to be replaced every three to four months. Ooops.

I think we can all agree that we have a bit more free time on our hands at the moment, so why not spend that time deep-cleaning your make-up brushes. Here’s how I do it.

  1. I let my brushes soak in hot water for about half an hour. This opens up the bristles ready for cleaning.
  2. My next step is quite an unconventional beauty hack but it works for me. I pour some baby shampoo into a small sieve, and then I work the brush around the sieve in small, circular motions. This allows the product to get into all the bristles and leaves my brushes really clean.
  3. Next, I rinse the brush with warm water. I use my fingers to move the bristles around to check that I’ve got rid of all the product.
  4. Then, I squeeze out any excess water and push the bristles back into their correct shape.
  5. Finally, I place my brushes on a towel and leave them in a warm, dry room overnight. Make sure the head of the brush is resting over a surface, so the brush dries evenly.
  6. Wake-up to clean, dry brushes.

Using a sieve is just how I clean my brushes, but using your hand or even a make-up brush cleaning mat will be just as effective. Baby shampoo is my cleanser of choice, but any soap-like product will work. Plus, most beauty brands now stock a make-up brush cleanser.

It may seem like an unnecessary chore but add regular brush-cleaning to your make-up routine and you will be surprised at the results.

Translucent Loose Setting Powder – Laura Mercier

Translucent Loose Setting Powder – Laura Mercier

The holy grail of setting powders.

I can’t even tell you how long this product had been sat in my wishlist, calling my name. But, the thing with powder products is that they last forever. So for ages, I couldn’t ignore the fact that I already had a perfectly good setting powder in my make-up bag. But about a month ago, I decided I deserved better than perfectly good, so I gave in, and bought Laura Mercier’s critically acclaimed loose setting powder.

Unless you’ve been sitting under a rock, then you will definitely know about this product. It’s won multiple awards and it’s a necessity in any MUA’s make-up bag. Plus, it isn’t just any setting powder, it sets your make-up in the most beautiful way. Your skin is left flawless, fresh, and most importantly, shine-free. Fine lines are visibly removed, and so far, my make-up has never looked cakey. In addition, I don’t get any creases under my eyes and it lasts all day.

The powder comes in three shades: translucent, honey and medium deep.

As someone with very oily skin, I wouldn’t recommend this product unless I truly believed that it leaves your skin with a satin finish and with that annoying oil nowhere to be seen. In addition, it blurs any imperfections and my make-up stays exactly how I want it, even after a very busy day at work or after sitting in the sun.

After using Laura Mercier’s loose setting powder, I can honestly say that I will never use another setting powder ever again. Now I know why it’s so popular amongst the beauty community. It totally deserves the splash of cash.

The only downfall…prepare to become addicted.

Price: £32. (I would arguably pay more, it’s that good)

Lip Plumping Gloss Champagne Glam – e.l.f Cosmetics

Lip Plumping Gloss Champagne Glam – e.l.f Cosmetics

A perfect way to finish any make-up look.

Everyone loves a lipgloss, but there are so many on the market, it can be difficult to choose the right one for you. If you like a high-shine lip gloss, that leaves your lips looking irresistibly glossy, then keep reading.

E.l.f Cosmetics are an American cosmetics brand and their products can be found in Boots and Superdrug. Their products are super affordable, and they sell everything from lipglosses to brush sets to skincare. I was searching for a skin-coloured lipgloss and this one stood out to me amongst Boots’ make-up counters.

The gloss I chose was e.l.f’s lip plumping gloss in the colour Champagne glam. It’s a nude, skin colour, which complements any make-up look. It’s a very versatile colour so it can be worn for all occasions. I add it on top of my go-to lipstick to add some extra glam.

The product comes in six different shades: Pink cosmo, Champagne glam, Praline, Sparking rosé, Pink sugar, Mocha twist & Peach Bellini. I definitely have my eye on Mocha twist, a dark, rich pink.

I’ve always been scared to try plumping glosses as they are known for causing a lasting tingling sensation and sometimes even irritation. However, I was pleasantly surprised by e.l.f’s lip pumping gloss. The gloss adds volume to your lips whilst nourishing and hydrating from within. On application there definitely is a tingling sensation, but it doesn’t last long, and almost feels quite cooling on the lips.

The only downfall for me is that the gloss is quite sticky, so my hair quite easily gets caught in it. And as a result, the gloss doesn’t last as long as I would like it to. But for such an affordable option, e.l.f’s lip plumping gloss is definitely one to consider.

Price: £6.00 (For this price give me a good reason not to)

Sun Glow Foundation – Note Beauty

Sun Glow Foundation – Note Beauty

Are you a fan of the no-makeup look? Then take note and keep reading.

I actually came across this product by accident. I’d had my eye on By Terry’s Brightening CC Serum for quite a while, which is basically a super glowing elixir which promises skin rejuvenation and amazing results. But at £61, I wasn’t ready to commit just yet. I ended up on a website called Influenster, which basically stores millions of reviews on any product you can think of. Whilst researching By Terry’s product, I read a review which suggested I try Note Beauty’s sun glow foundation first, a drug-store alternative which offers a similar look. I’d never heard of Note Beauty before, but scrolling through their website, I was shocked at how many products looked right up my street. At £12.95 I thought I would save myself some dollar, and try this first. And it definitely didn’t disappoint.

Sun Glow Foundation isn’t really a foundation, I would describe it more as a glowy BB cream or a shimmery liquid bronzer. It applies really flawlessly and isn’t sticky. It basically just warms up your face and gives a natural-looking glow. In addition, it contains SPF 15 and Vitamin E!! This is a definite benefit as it protects your skin from sun damage whilst keeping your skin hydrated.

I either wear the product when I don’t want a full face of make-up, but still want a little bit of coverage and a sunkissed glow. Or I layer it under my foundation, and it gives my face a really dewy finish. But this product can be used however you like, as a highlighter? As a fake-tan? As a body glow? If you’re scared of the depth of colour, mix it into your foundation or use as a base layer, for a sheen, flawless finish.

The product comes in three shades. 10, 20 and 30. I have shade 20, so if you have a fairer complexion I would recommend shade 10. You can’t really go wrong with this product, especially if you love dewy and glowy make-up looks. I will definitely be repurchasing!

Take note & bring on the glow!

Price: £12.95 (cheaper than a holiday that’s for sure)

Summer is here. Get ready to glow.

I must be on my fourth bottle of this product. I am obsessed. Prep-Set-Glow is a hydrating mist which leaves your skin with that sun-kissed glow we all dream of. No need for the fake stuff or a trip to Barcelona, you can capture the holiday glow in a single bottle. This product has multiple uses, it can be used to prep your skin to provide a perfect base for your foundation. It can be used to set your finished look so your hard work doesn’t smudge. And finally, it can be used to add a super dewy radiance to your skin. What’s not to love?

I normally use this product after I’ve applied my make-up to finish my look and give me a bronzed shimmer. Also, if I’m really going for all-out glam (which during a global pandemic has been little to none), then I spritz the mist all over my body to look extra tanned and glowy.

The multi-use spray comes in three colours: Original, Glow and Gold. I have Glow and it is so refreshing and leaves the skin feeling really moisturised and radiant. It’s not sticky and sprays evenly across the skin. The bottle comes in two sizes, 120 ml and 75 ml, a travel-size and useful tester. This product also contains lots of trusty ingredients such as cucumber extract, chamomile, vitamin E and caffeine. If you’re not a fan of facial sprays, then definitely use the product sparingly and spray from a further distance. However, all in all, it’s definitely a crowd-pleaser and a must-have for any make-up bag.

The Gold Collection is Iconic London’s limited edition range, which contains the Prep-Set-Glow mist and their illuminator. Without a doubt, when my bottle of Glow runs out, I will be buying Gold asap! Who wouldn’t want to spray themselves in a gold mist?

Seeing as getting a natural bronzed glow seems quite unlikely at the moment, it’s the perfect time to invest in Prep-Set-Glow and give yourself a summer’s tan all year round. Trust me, every hour will be golden hour.

Price: £22 – 120 ml & £18.50 – 75 ml. (Definitely invest in the larger bottle for an extra £3.50)

The Natural Nudes Palette – Too Faced

The Natural Nudes Palette – Too Faced

Take your eye shadow look from fresh-faced to party glam…

Too Faced is a brand that I have recently become obsessed with and I own quite a few of their make-up products. However, an eyeshadow palette is a completely different ball game as they have about 15 to choose from on their website. Where would you even start?

Then I discovered The Natural Nudes Palette. Complete. Game. Changer.

An influencer on Instagram that I follow religiously, Alice T (alxcext), was doing a ‘get ready with me’ make-up tutorial on her YouTube channel and I spotted her using an eyeshadow palette as a mirror. I only saw a glimpse of the shades but the shimmery golds immediately stood out to me. However, because she wasn’t actually using the palette, only for practical purposes (I will be stealing this idea as well), I had no idea what it was called. On a whim, I commented on the post asking what brand the palette was, and luckily she replied. She said that it was Too Faced’s brand new launch: The Natural Nudes Palette. I knew I needed to get my hands on it. So, I quickly hopped onto Google and searched for websites selling the palette. Too Faced- Sold out. Look Fantastic – Sold out. Cult Beauty – Sold out.

Although I was disappointed, I soon realised why it was so popular. The premise of the palette is that it is for all skin colours, and every one of their foundation skin shades is paired with a sparkly shimmer, that really does sparkle. The palette contains sixteen suuuppper pigmented shades and of course the trusted vanity mirror. The shades are so versatile and there is so much you can do with them, from the classic smoky eye to a bright pink stand-out look to complement any outfit. The colours are really buildable and you can either rock a mix of shades, or apply the nude base colour, and then, when you’re ready to take the look to the next level, add the shimmer.

This palette definitely did not disappoint and it is now the only eyeshadow palette I carry with me in my makeup bag. I love the fact that every shade that I could ever need is right there in one palette, and I think I will struggle to find something that could ever replace it.

It is a must-have for any make-up lover. A 10/10 from me.

Price: £35. (Worth every penny)
