Ole Henriksen – Truth Juice Daily Cleanser

Ole Henriksen – Truth Juice Daily Cleanser

A juice cleanse I actually like the sound of.

Ole Henriksen is a Danish skin cosmetician who created a wide range of skin-care products to target different skin concerns. I bought the cleanser from the Truth collection which aims to brighten skin with the addition of Vitamin C.

Inspired by juice cleanses which detoxify the body, Henriksen created a juice cleanse to detoxify your skin. This is a juice cleanse that you won’t give up after day 1.

The Truth Juice Daily Cleanser will remove all of your make-up and any excess dirt and oils, leaving your skin feeling refreshed and revitalised. It is a foaming cleanser and when the creamy formula mixes with water it creates a luxurious lather. It is a very fragrant cleanser, and the colour of the bottle doesn’t try to hide what that scent will be. Be prepared for a wave of zingy orange, it’s basically like having one of your five-a-day.

The Ole Henriksen brand started as a spa and that definitely comes across with this product. The packaging is really vibrant and definitely stands out amongst my other skin-care products. The scent packs a powerful punch which will make you want to double cleanse, but one cleanse is definitely enough. I love how this cleanser invigorates my skin and creates a glow that lasts all day. I’m definitely excited to try more products from the Ole Henriksen brand.

After all this juice cleanse talk, I might even have a glass of orange juice.

Clinique – All About Eyes Eye Cream Rich

Clinique – All About Eyes Eye Cream Rich

Good things come in small packages.

Do I really need to use an eye cream? That is the question I always asked myself. I’m young enough to not have fine lines but I also want to look after my skin. However, after a lot of research, I concluded that using an eyecream is not a necessity, but when it comes to skincare the earlier the better. Dermatologists suggest that the best time to start using an eye cream is before you think you need one. Using an eye cream in my 20s won’t harm my skin, but it might help prevent fine lines and wrinkles. The skin around your eyes is really delicate so it needs some extra attention. Plus an eye cream does so much more than deliver anti-ageing benefits.

Clinique’s All About Eyes is a really creamy eye cream which instantly hydrates the delicate eye area. When I apply it in the morning, the puffiness of my eyes noticeably decreases, which makes me feel more awake and ready to start my day. If your eyes feel or look tired, this product will brighten up your eyes and overtime reduce dark circles. I use All About Eyes every morning and evening and I have been really impressed with the results. The product also sits really well under make-up. It’s the perfect addition to any skincare routine. It might be on the pricier side for such a small product, but the results will be worth it.

What is purging?

What is purging?

Sometimes your skin has to look worse before it can look better.

A few months ago I introduced a new product into my skin-care regime in order to tackle a few, annoying breakouts. However, every day my skin seemed to be getting worse and worse. The product was quite expensive and had received fantastic reviews on the internet and from the lady in the store. This left me feeling very confused and a bit disappointed.

Seeking answers, I jumped onto the internet and stumbled upon the term purging. I had never heard of purging being related to the skin before, so it sparked my curiosity and I wanted to know more.

So what is purging? Purging is basically when a new product or a change to your routine speeds up your skin cell turn over rate. However, as this happens all the build-up under your skin rises up, leaving you with a rush of breakouts. As a result, people (myself included) tend to stop using the product they think is causing these breakouts. However, sometimes it is actually more beneficial to allow your skin to purge in order to see the benefits of the new ingredients you’re adding to your skin.

Unlike regular breakouts, these spots usually disappear a lot sooner. They also normally occur in the places where you usually breakout. Products such as retinoids and acids are quite powerful, so the skin needs more time to adjust.

If you think your skin is purging after using a new product, it’s important to simplify your skin-care routine for a while. But also, in order to see the benefits of the new product you just bought, you must keep using it.

I know the ugly breakout stage is tough but resist the urge to cut-out the product, and you may just see the amazing results the product promises. Patience is key.

Obviously, if you think you are having a bad reaction to the product, don’t use it or seek dermatological advice! But if you just notice a few more breakouts in your regular areas, it may just be that your skin is purging and getting the skin ready for the new ingredients you’re adding to your routine.

Next time don’t be so hasty to put that new product to the bottom of the pile.

Glowing skin is on its way.

Contour Stick – Morphe

Contour Stick – Morphe

Dreaming of a chiselled jawline?

I am a huge fan of cream contour products! I think they can really add definition to your face in the places that you need it. They can make any forehead look smaller, any nose look slimmer, and any jaw look chiselled. What’s not to love?

Morphe are a huge brand, but their products are sometimes hard to get hold of within the UK. However, whilst searching on Cult Beauty for a new contour stick, I came across Morphe’s range of cream contour products. I opted for the contour stick, as I find a stick really easy to apply.

The Morphe contour stick comes in 10 shades, so there is an option for every skin colour. I opted for shade 13 and it’s a lovely caramel shade which makes me look really tanned. FYI always choose a shade about two shades darker than your skin tone in order for the product to be undetectable.

I’m really really happy with the Morphe contour stick. It glides seamlessly over the face and is so easy to blend. The product is also really buildable so you will definitely be able to achieve your desired look.

If you want to add some definition to your make-up look, then maybe it’s time to start contouring? It’s such an easy way for people to think your bone structure is just that good.

Color WOW – Dream Cocktail Carb Infused

Color WOW – Dream Cocktail Carb Infused

You’ll be saying wow wow wow wow

Color Wow are a professional hair care brand who use technology to provide the answers to all your hair problems. They have a wide-range of products to target a variety of common issues from the effects of colour-treated hair to uncontrollable frizz.

I decided to purchase from their dream cocktail range. The dream cocktail is a leave-in treatment and is activated with heat. You rub the product through damp hair and then after styling your hair you will see the effects of the treatment.

There are three variations of the dream cocktail with each one targeting specific issues related to your hair.

  • Kale infused – Targets breakage, resulting in stronger hair
  • Coconut infused – Brings dull hair back to life, hydrates and silkens
  • Carb infused – Adds thickness to fine, limp hair

I opted for the carb infused dream cocktail as my hair is very thin and I would do anything for some extra volume. I bought the travel size version (50ml) as I wanted to make sure the product actually worked for my hair type. I have been pleasantly surprised with the added oomph to my hair and it definitely does what it says on the tin. After blowdrying my hair it has more life to it and a lot more body. Plus, by the next day my hair still feels voluminised. I definitely think I will be repurchasing, or I might try their Dream Coat Spray which combats frizz.

If you enjoy trying out new products, then take a look at what Color Wow has to offer!

La Roche Posay – My favourite brand for all things SPF

La Roche Posay – My favourite brand for all things SPF

If you read my ‘Let’s talk SPF…’ post a few days ago, then you will know how strongly I believe in the importance of applying SPF every day. Over the years I’ve tried a fair few products out, but I keep coming back to La Roche Posay. If you’re looking for SPF products that sit well under make-up and don’t leave you with that dreaded white-cast look, then La Roche Posay could be the new brand for you!

La Roche Posay is a French skin-care brand who specialise in making dermatological skin-care accessible to those who need it. The brand is a huge advocate for spreading awareness on sun-safety through their high-quality sunscreen and skin cancer awareness messaging.

Although I have bought numerous of La Roche Posay’s products, the ones I want to talk to you about today are my go-to products for sun protection.

The first is their Effaclar Duo+ SPF30. I use this product every morning as a moisturiser and it has worked wonders for my skin. The product aims to visibly correct imperfections and reduce blackheads. This product is ideal for oily and blemish-prone skin types and the added bonus of containing SPF 30 is a no-brainer. Apply this every morning and take comfort in the fact that you are protected from the sun.

The second product is for days when I know I will be exposed to the sun for longer periods of time, such as on holiday. It is their Anthelios Ultra-Light Invisible Fluid SPF50+ Sun Cream. This product works perfectly under my make-up and doesn’t leave my face feeling greasy. There is also no white-cast and is suitable for oily skin. I sometimes use this product under my moisturiser if I need extra protection that day, otherwise, it is my go-to face sunscreen on holiday.

My skin type is oily and I have really got on well with these products. However, on La Roche Posay’s website, they have designated pages for each skin-type, and then they suggest which of their products will work best for your skin. There is also a quiz you can take, which will work out what your skin type is. I definitely recommend this brand if you’re looking to invest in your sun-care and skin protection.

Factor SPF into your daily routine, and stay safe in the sun!

Fenty Skin is here. Are you ready?

Fenty Skin is here. Are you ready?

Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty took the make-up world by storm when she launched the brand back in 2017. But now she’s changing the game once again and has brought out three new products under the title of Fenty Skin.

The idea is that Fenty Skin is suitable for all skin types and cuts down the number of products people need to use every day. Skin-care regimes always seem so complex and overwhelming, but Fenty Skin aims to simplify your routine whilst still proving really effective.

Rihanna has also discussed how important it was for her products to be eco-friendly. The products have been made out of recyclable materials where possible and there is no excess packaging. What’s more, she has created a refillable system whereby you only need to buy the full-sized product once. After that, you just purchase a refill version of the product. Absolute genius.

The products are also super accessible, with a twist-open and twist-close cap. I absolutely love this, as I’m always fiddling with the lids of my products and end up spending a lot longer trying to put the right lid on the right product.

On the 31st July, Fenty Skin went live with three unique products.

  1. Total Cleanser – A 2-in-1 make-up remover and cleanser. Removes make-up and dirt/oils in one step.
  2. Fat Water – A toner-serum which targets pores and brightens skin.
  3. Hydra Vizor Invisible Moisturiser – A SPF 30 lightweight moisturiser.

There is tonnes more information at https://www.fentybeauty.com/fentyskin and you will be able to find hundreds of reviews on the internet already. As soon as I can get my hands on the products I will share my thoughts with you. But until then, dream about an effortless beauty regime which will help the environment whilst giving your skin a new lease of life.

Glow Tonic – PIXI

Glow Tonic – PIXI

It’s time to show off your skin’s glow.

If I could only recommend one skin-care product, it would be this one. Pixi’s Glow Tonic has been my skin’s saviour for the past two years. I am obsessed with this product and can’t go a day without using it. The products in my skin-care routine are constantly changing, but this product isn’t going anywhere!

The Glow Tonic is a facial toner that cleans your pores by removing excess oil and impurities. It also gently exfoliates your skin, revealing your natural glow. It contains glycolic acid which exfoliates the skin, ginseng which energises the skin and aloe vera which hydrates the skin.

I use this product in the AM & PM after cleansing. All you need to do is pour a small amount onto a cotton pad and gently wipe across your skin. A small amount really does go a long way! Since using this product I have noticed minimal breakouts and my oil is more controlled. At first, you may notice a stinging sensation, but this goes away after a few uses.

Pixi’s Glow Tonic has received glowing reviews and is a cult favourite amongst the beauty community. The product was the winner of Teen Vogues 2017 Acne Awards.

The bottle comes in three sizes: 250ml, 100ml & 15ml.

It is the added step between cleansing and moisturising that will change your skin game forever.

Sun Bunny Bronzer – Too Faced

Sun Bunny Bronzer – Too Faced

A dual-shaded bronzer to surpass any make-up desire.

If you hadn’t guessed by now, my make-up bag is filled to the brim with Too Faced products. And my bronzer is no exception. I present to you the Sun Bunny Bronzer by Too Faced, a dual-shaded piece of make-up heaven.

The bronzer has two sides, a glowy bronze, and a deep bronze. Put them together and it’s magic. It’s the perfect bronzer for summer as it’s pink undertones mimic the flush of a natural tan.

The glowy bronze side isn’t at all shimmery, it just enhances your natural colour and brings out your inner glow. The deep bronze side adds dimension to your face and blends seamlessly. Both shades are easy to build and work perfectly together.

Wear the shades separately or sweep your brush across the compact for an extra glow. But either way, you will love this product.

I also use this bronzer for an everyday eyeshadow, as one stroke across the eyes adds a natural shaping. Also, the compact is super sturdy and comes with a vanity mirror, so you can keep an eye on your sun-kissed skin all day long.

If you’re after a bronzer that makes it look like you just spent a day at the beach, then you must get your hands on it now.

Price: £25 (hunny, that’s the price to be a sun bunny)

How often do you clean your make-up brushes?

How often do you clean your make-up brushes?

If you have to think about it, it’s been too long.

We all know how important good hygiene is, but then why do so many of us forget to clean our make-up brushes? I can definitely put my hands up and admit that I don’t clean mine as often as I should, and don’t even ask about the state of my beauty blender.

Dirty make-up brushes are a definite no-no for healthy skin and a flawless make-up application. The bristles harbour A LOT of bacteria and dirt, which you are then putting directly onto your skin. This can cause breakouts and skin irritation, whilst also wearing down the strength of the bristles making the brush less effective over-time. Clearly something needs to change.

So how often should we be cleaning our brushes? Experts suggest around twice a week if you’re using them every day. But as long as you’re cleaning them regularly, then you’re saving your skin from a lot of unnecessary dirt and irritation. If they’re currently covered in your favourite foundation or you can’t remember the last time you cleaned them, then its probably about time.

Also, don’t forget about your beauty blender. Beauty blenders hold onto all the dirt and grime that accumulates on your face and they are much harder to thoroughly clean. Sponges should be washed after every use or at least after every few uses. You may not want to hear this but they also need to be replaced every three to four months. Ooops.

I think we can all agree that we have a bit more free time on our hands at the moment, so why not spend that time deep-cleaning your make-up brushes. Here’s how I do it.

  1. I let my brushes soak in hot water for about half an hour. This opens up the bristles ready for cleaning.
  2. My next step is quite an unconventional beauty hack but it works for me. I pour some baby shampoo into a small sieve, and then I work the brush around the sieve in small, circular motions. This allows the product to get into all the bristles and leaves my brushes really clean.
  3. Next, I rinse the brush with warm water. I use my fingers to move the bristles around to check that I’ve got rid of all the product.
  4. Then, I squeeze out any excess water and push the bristles back into their correct shape.
  5. Finally, I place my brushes on a towel and leave them in a warm, dry room overnight. Make sure the head of the brush is resting over a surface, so the brush dries evenly.
  6. Wake-up to clean, dry brushes.

Using a sieve is just how I clean my brushes, but using your hand or even a make-up brush cleaning mat will be just as effective. Baby shampoo is my cleanser of choice, but any soap-like product will work. Plus, most beauty brands now stock a make-up brush cleanser.

It may seem like an unnecessary chore but add regular brush-cleaning to your make-up routine and you will be surprised at the results.
