Does at-home whitening really work?
I am always on the lookout for DIY teeth whitening kits, but most of the ones I’ve tried just didn’t hit the mark. Then I saw Spotlight’s whitening system whilst scrolling through Instagram as one of my fave influencers, Emma-Louise Connolly, was advertising the product. I decided to take the plunge and give at-home whitening one final go.
Spotlight Oral Care was created by two female dentists, who aimed to develop products to help the health and beauty needs of their patients. It definitely sounds like they know what they’re doing, so I’m excited to test out the product and see how it compares to other teeth whitening products that I’ve tried.
The whitening system contains a 14-day course of whitening strips and a 100ml whitening toothpaste. The strips also come in a cute red bag to store them in.
So how does it work? The strips contain hydrogen peroxide, which penetrates the top layer of the tooth enamel, to visibly reduce the appearance of tough stains.
In the packet, there is a strip for your upper teeth and one for your lower teeth. You place the strips carefully onto dry teeth and wrap the excess onto the back of your teeth. Then, you sit and wait for an hour. After the hour’s up you brush your teeth with the toothpaste, and repeat for the next 13 days.
You can buy the whitening system on Spotlight’s website, or I bought mine at Boots to save on shipping costs.
So, I thought I would get the ball rolling and I am currently sat writing this blog post with my first set of strips pressed firmly onto my teeth. The hour is nearly up and I’ve hardly felt the strips in my mouth at all, which is definitely a great sign.
However, I’ve still got a very long way to go until I can truthfully review this product. So, hold tight and come back in two weeks to see how I get on.
